Slingshot - Check out the build image gallery here
Polaris® makes a ridiculously fun, wild looking ride called the Slingshot. Its unique looks and stellar performance and handling make it a blast to cruise around in, but the audio system it comes with from the factory just doesn’t do it justice. One local business owner, frustrated with not being able to rock out in his favorite ride, contacted JC Audio to change that – and to create a system that would complete the package.
The crew evaluated the vehicle completely, discussed some goals and desires of the owner, and created an awesome upgrade package to solve every issue he had. With their expertise in integrating factory radios with awesome aftermarket speakers and amplifiers, the JC Audio technicians quickly determined that the original radio would provide excellent signal with the help of some specific tools that measure frequency, amplitude, and voltage.
JC Audio always uses the highest standards in installation, and all connections are soldered and covered with heat shrink to protect the connection. However, since this particular installation could be exposed to the elements unexpectedly, care was used to route wires in a way that would protect them, and stainless steel hardware and fasteners were used to build and secure everything. This extra care ensures long-term durability and high performance for the owner.
The SlingshotTM comes equipped with speaker pods near the dash on the sides, but the original speakers were inadequate and a big upgrade was needed. The crew took the OEM pods and custom molded a new enclosure on the bottom of each, enabling the installation of a larger mid-bass driver from a Hertz HSK Series 3-Way component speaker set. The new enclosure, plus the custom mounting of the HSK mid-range and tweeter speakers, make them look like they were meant to be there! High-grade automotive paint was used to finish the enclosures and integrate them to the vehicle.
An Audison BitOne Digital Signal Processor was neatly tucked into the passenger side storage compartment, mounted on spacers using stainless hardware with thread-lock for vibration resistance. A hand fabricated splash cover protects the DSP in the rare case that water would get in to the compartment. The control interface for this processor DRC was flush-mounted into the center console where the driver can quickly access it for volume control and any other adjustments.
Two JL Audio M Series amplifiers run the entire audio system. One JL Audio M700/5 powers the subwoofer and the mid-bass drivers, while a JL Audio M400/4 powers the mid-range and tweeter speakers. The amplifiers are mounted on spacers under the passenger seat to save space in the storage compartment, and a heat-molded PVC shield covers the wires to keep them protected.
One JL Audio 10w3 10” sub was mounted in a fiberglass enclosure behind the driver’s seat, provided much-needed low-range bass to really round out this great sounding system. The battery was upgraded from the small OEM battery to an Optima aftermarket battery via a custom built bracket and tray, and dedicated power wires were run for the aftermarket system. The result was an extremely loud audio system that is just as pleasing to listen to as driving this wicked machine around town is – the perfect match!
