How can I hook up an iPod for my car? This is a question we hear often. There are two main ways to accomplish this:

1. Aux input – Aux input can either be a 3.5mm port installed so that you can run a wire from the headphone jack on your iPod or MP3 player directly into the radio, or an FM Modulator (hardwired, not wireless , see “fm modulators” on accessories page) so that you can feed sound into the FM tuner on your radio.

These are both great alternatives for cars that aren’t compatible with the next category.

2. iPod interface – An iPod interface will not use the headphone jack, rather it will plug directly into the 30 pin connector on the base of your compatible iPod or iPhone. There are several big advantages to this method. First, it will charge the iPod or iPhone while you are listening to music, eliminating the need to carry a separate charger or tie up an auxiliary power outlet or cigarette lighter. Second, it will give you better quality sound quality since it is tied directly into an input on the back of the radio. The sound from an iPod is already compressed, so it is vital to maintain as much of the remaining quality as possible. Lastly, on many cars we can program the factory radio to actually control the iPod from the radio’s buttons and display the album information on the screen of the radio! Now that’s what I’m talking about!

PXAMG

Recipient of a 2008 CES Innovations Award, the PXAMG is the first interface ever to bring the iPod™, HD Radio™ broadcasting, and many other portable media products into the vehicle.

The PXAMG also brings the power of HD Radio broadcasting with the help of the Peripheral Electronics HD Radio Tuner (HDRT). Available separately, the HDRT gives users more channels, more content, in exciting new formats—all with no subscription fees.

The PXAMG directly connects your iPod to your radio allowing you to browse your music, by Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlist from the radio controls. This direct connection eliminates the need for noisy FM modulated solutions, and also keeps the iPods internal battery charged. The interface is expandable, by adding the HDRT you will receive digital radio stations that can not be received with a standard tuner. Experience HD Radio and hear FM in CD quality, and AM at FM quality!

Allows connection of any two devices: iPod cable, AUX cable or HD Radio Tuner (sold separately).
